Longines: A Heritage of Tradition and Elegance

Longines was started in 1832 in Saint Imier, Switzerland. Longiness watches have a long reputation of beauty and tradition, while being the official time keeper at many world championships in the sporting world. Longines is one of the leading manufacturers of timepieces, and a member of The Swatch Group S.A. A winged hourglass is the distinct emblem of Longiness watches. Today, it is an established brand of watches in over 130 countries worldwide.

In 2003, the company came up with the design for the barrel-shaped watch face for the Longines Evidenza Collection. This line of Longines watches features the tradition for elegance and style, something for which the company is well known.

Two years later in 2005, designers noticed the world wide trend of customers' prefence for original mechanical movements in timepieces. Longines designers created a collection representing their traditional watches. This is when Longines Master Collection line, which was completely mechanical, most of which were self-winding, came about.

Then in 2007, Longines specially made the self-winding, with retrograde functions, line called the Master Collection Retrograde. There were 2 different versions of this timepiece created.

After realizing that devoted female customers were being neglected, in 2009, Longines created a line especially for women. This line is called the Longines PrimaLuna collection.

The new column wheel chronograph movement line, called the L688, came into fruition in 2010. This self-winding mechanical calibre was also used in the prestigious Longines Sait-Imier collection in 2012.

Two thousand eleven brought about the Longines Master Collection Retregrade Moonphase line. This particular movement, specifically called L707, and exclusive only to Longines, encompasses 4 different retrograde functions. Those are day, date, second, and 24-hour scale, in addition to the day/night indicator and the phases of the moon.

In 2012,
Longines created the Longines Saint-Imier Collection. This was a tribute to the village where it all began for the company, over 180 years before, and where it continues to remain in present day. The self-winding mechanical calibre, the L688, created in 2010, and is Longines most pretigious movement, was used in this collection. The heritage, knowledge, plus creativity and beauty, inspired this Longines Saint-Imier Collection. It encombers accuracy and quality, and also the tradition of elegance and perfection, all of which have been important values of Longines since the start of the company in 1832.
